Introduction

Tianjin Maritime College (TMC) is a comprehensive public full-time higher vocational college focusing on cultivating maritime talents. The origin of the school dates back to 1962 when it was known as Tianjin Further Education College of Science and Technology.  Now it is under direct administration of Tianjin Municipal Education Commission. With a structure area of more than 200,000 square meters, the college covers an area of 976 mu (about 650,667 square meters). It has more than 10,000 full-time students.

The college adheres to the development strategy of "making sustained efforts to build a well-established school and foster virtues". In accordance with the  Belt and Road Initiative, China’s strategies of building a maritime power and pursuing the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, and the  “six-sphere” talent training model, the college has built 32 specialties in six specialty clusters including Navigation Technology, Ship and Ocean Engineering Equipment, Digital and Intelligent Port & Shipping Economy, Cruise Tourism, Modern Information Technology, and Special Equipment. It has formed a specialty layout with maritime characteristics, serving the regional economy and the demand for talents in the two fields of navigation and ports. The college strives to tap its potential to the full, enhance school-running quality, and increase social influence.

There are more than one hundred on-campus training rooms such as water teaching center and full simulation of ship maneuvering, and nearly 150 training bases with famous enterprises at home and abroad.

Facing the future development, the college insists on running an open school, is committed to serving the Belt and Road Initiative and Chinese enterprises “going global,” and actively promotes vocational education to “go global”. The college has established the International Cruise Talent Training Center with Royal Caribbean Group; established the International College in Malaysia of Tianjin Maritime College of China with Merdeka University Berhad and Oneworld Hanxin College; built Luban Workshop in Uzbekistan to export educational resources of high quality with rich experience in international cooperative education. The college explores the unified management model of international students and conducts academic education for international students. There are more than 140 international students from 14 countries in Southeast Asia, Central Asia and Africa. The college has conducted mutual visits and exchanges with more than 20 colleges and universities in France and the Netherlands to train technical and skilled talents for countries along the Belt and Road. In 2022, it was sponsored by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education for the first time to conduct the “Chinese Bridge” online group exchange program, playing an active role in telling China’s stories and spreading Chinese ocean culture and traditional Chinese culture. The college was selected as a typical college of international cooperation and exchange in vocational education in 2022 by Education Plus (the sixth edition). The experience of educating international students from countries along the Belt and Road was selected as a typical excellent case of international cooperation and exchange in vocational education in 2022. The internationalization level of the college has been constantly improved.
